The MiG-21SMT Fishbed-K in Leningrad

The 66th Fighter-Bomber Air regiment used the MiG-21SMT Fishbed-K type for fifteen years. In the eighties, the old MiG-21 type was already obsolete. But it still passed as a second line machine. The long-range MiG-21SMT Fishbed-K was used as a fighter-bomber type.

In 1989 the number of regiments also needed to be reduced at the Leningrad Military District. The 66th Fighter-Bomber Air Regiment was also close to being terminated. To avoid this the regiment was transferred to the Soviet Navy. Here they flew with Su-17M3 Fitter-H fighter bombers for another four years.
