The MiG-27D Flogger-J
of the Leningrad Military District's Air Force

In the mid eighties, the 722th Fighter Bomber Air Regiment handed over the old MiG-27 Flogger-D types to the 117th Aircraft Repair Plant at Skinov AB. Also the advanced MiG-27K Flogger-J2 types to the Belorussian Military District's 911th Fighter Bomber Air Regiment. Instead, they received three squadrons of upgraded MiG-27D Flogger-J version.
 

On the MiG-27D Flogger-J type were replacing the Fon laser ranger with the Klyon model and installing all the components of the new PrNK-23M navigation/attack system. Additionally, the LERXes with the built-in Beryoza-L radar warning receivers were mounted at the junction of the wing glove and fuselage. Some MiG-27D FloggerJs retained their RSBN-6S short-range navigation and landing system but many received the more advanced A-321 Klistron. Because of its unreliability the R-864 transceiver was omitted, as was its antenna, so establishing a small visual difference with the MiG-27M Flogger-J.
