Soviet Leningrad Military District's Air Force
in January 1, 1988

In the second half of the eighties, the Leningrad Military District Air Force still used third-line models. They had modern versions of the MiG-27K Flogger-J2 type but in 1986 it was handed over to the Belorussian Military District's 911th Fighter Bomber Air Regiment.

In 1988 the Leningrad Military District's Air Force regained its independence. In 1989 the 76th Soviet Tactical Air Army's size needed to be reduced. The 66th Fighter Bomber Air Regiment moved to the Soviet Navy. In exchange the 67th and 722th regiments received two regiment old Su-24 Fencer-A / B and C tactical bomber type between 1989 and 1990.
